Gregory V. Welty, 62

Greg passed away on Feb. 14, 2024 at Clark Fork Valley Hospital from a cancerous brain tumor.  He was born May 6, 1961 at the hospital in Hot Springs, MT to Richard A. Welty & Melva I. (Arnold) Welty.

Greg attended school in Plains and after graduating from High School, attended a mechanic’s school in Spokane, Washington.  He then went to work for his parents at Western Hardware.  Next, he went to work for the city of Plains.  He was employed in the public works department and then became the Manager of the Public Works department.  Greg worked for the Town of Plains for 21 years.  

Greg loved wrestling, hunting, fishing, 4-wheeling and all outdoor activities. He especially enjoyed doing these activities with family and friends, especially his best friend of 57 years, Jim Marjerrison.  

Greg was preceded in death by his dad, Richard Welty and his sister, Ricki Lynn Brooks.

Greg is survived by his daughter Whitney Welty, his son Tyler Welty and Greg's granddaughter Lilah Welty, his wife Cathie Welty,  her children Sandra, Stephanie, Serena, David, and grandchildren.  Greg is also survived by his mother, Melva Welty, brother Stephen Welty and wife Winnie (Ovitt) Welty and their children and grandchildren.  Also he is survived by his sister Christine Cockrell and her children and grandchildren.  

The service was held Saturday, March 2 at 1 p.m. at the Plains High School Gym.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Greg’s favorite charity, the Disabled Veterans, in his memory.
