Members of the Plains Beautification Day Committee spent Wednesday evening planning for the upcoming cleanup day, which will take place May 18 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

“My hope for this meeting is to one, get on the same page, and to begin to look at the big picture of what the spring cleanup will be and start putting together at least a plan of a plan on what needs to happen, and maybe create some deadlines or goals to meet as we move toward that,” said committee member Garrett Boon,

Lana Dicken raised the question about accepting used tires during cleanup days. A partnership with a company or organization that accepts used tires would be necessary if that were to happen.

Another suggestion made by Anita Marsh was the possible placement of decorative barrels planted with flowers along the business district.

“How can we get the businesses to buy into the idea?” Marsh said.

A problem that has been discussed by the Plains town council and has been a major concern with the first responders, including the Plains Community Ambulance, Plains Fire Department, and the Plains-Paradise Rural Fire District, has been the lack of homes having house numbers visibly displayed. Current estimates of homes without house numbers visible are over 100 within town limits.

Mayor Joel Banham said he would look into a bulk purchase of house numbers that could be installed on homes in need by first responders during the May 18 cleanup day. The town does have an ordinance requiring that each home have house numbers visibly displayed.

The committee will be signing up those that need assistance during cleanup days and for those that would like to volunteer to help clean up the town. The cleanup schedule will be a first come, first severed, in the time allotted.

Committee members are looking for trailers and trucks to help with refuge removal during the event.

The next Beautification Day Committee meeting will be April 3 at 7 p.m., in the lower level of the Mountain West Dental Office.
