St. Regis residents will remember last year that there was discussion of extending the sidewalk for safer travel to the Community Park. After public comment and budget and funding discussions, construction is scheduled to begin Monday, April 1.

The work will last about a month.

The project includes extending the existing concrete sidewalk at the intersection of Tiger Street with Old Hightway 10. The concrete sidewalk will transition into an asphalt path entering the St. Regis Community Park on Mullan Gulch Road.

The purpose of the project is to provide a shared-use path for pedestrians from downtown St. Regis and the St. Regis School to the St. Regis Community Park.

The Memorial Day Flea Market will be the first time it is used by a crowd which is the reason for the start date. Traffic control will be in place as travelers can expect 15 to 20-minute delays, reduced speeds, and single-lane traffic through the project area.

“The Regent Realty office and Schober's Towing & Repair are the two parcels that will be impacted the most. We've had conversations with both owners of those properties,” shared Joan Redeen, executive assistant of communications for District 1 at the Montana Department of Transportation.

This is a joint construction with partner Jag Contracting, Inc. and the public is encouraged to contact Redeen at 406-396-1978 with any questions or comments.
