New additions at Trunk or Treat
This year’s Plains School Trunk or Treat Halloween festivities went off with only a few rain drops. It was a marked improvement over the blistering cold day last year. Several new sponsors were also added this year for a total of 19 candy filled trunks to visit.
Costumes of every description made an appearance, from a wagon full of youngsters out of the school nursery with the help of School Nurse Sakoya LaDeaux, to a scary T-Rex worn by Finley Williams.
One of the new sponsors this year was local Plains Police Chief Brian Josephson and officer Rob Geenen. Waldo was found this year. He was hiding at Bighorn Camp in Paradise. Now known as Brian Meaden, a camp counselor. His helper for the day was Amber Gibbs.
The Plains Community Ambulance was on hand with a new gurney victim who had seen better days. Keeping the gurney victim from circling the drain further were ambulance attendants, Lyle Fisher, Seth Gibbs, Sherry Bertrand and Jen Fratzke.
New this year there was a local DNRC fire engine with firefighters Jase Sorenson and Terrence Caldwell. Forest Service operators Cole Benson and Kasey Craft arrived on scene with a water tender and lots of candy.
High School Principal Dr. Heidi Fettinger commented, “A few high school students are helping the trunk or treat and receiving community credits for it.”
The event ended the school day and gave each of the students a head start to fill up their bags during the rest of the evening.
School Superintendent Dr. Kathleen Walsh said, “It’s a wonderful opportunity for the children that must take the bus home after dismissal to have a chance to engage in trick or treating. Otherwise, they can’t go on main street like the other children who live closer. So, it allows everybody to have some fun, and it also supports a nice group of community members here.”
