Pile burning operations to begin
MISSOULA – The Montana Department of Natural Resources and Conservation Missoula Unit plans to conduct pile burning on state trust lands pending favorable weather and fuel conditions through Dec. 1, as conditions allow.
Pile burning is used to reduce vegetative slash leftover from ongoing forest management projects on DNRC trust lands. Burns are conducted under strict conditions to ensure smoke dispersion and air quality compliance, as determined by the Montana Department of Environmental Quality and the Montana/Idaho Airshed Group.
Scheduled burn locations for Nov. 18:
Deer Creek hand piles – Adjacent to Deer Creek Road, near Pattee Canyon, east of Missoula
Goldielogs Skyline Harvest landing piles – Visible from Hwy 200 and Gold Creek Road
Additional DNRC trust land pile burn locations planned through Dec.1:
Potomac Flats landing piles – Near Bear Creek/Potomac area
Top Secret landing piles – Northwest of Drummond, in the Secret Gulch area
Tongue Tyed landing piles – Southeast of Drummond, in the Tyler Creek area
West Cramer landing piles – Northeast of Clinton, in the Cramer Creek area
Ruben landing piles – Southwest of Alberton, in the Fish Creek area
Smoke from these pile burns may be visible from nearby highways and communities.
