The Old Jail Museum will be hosting their annual Gingerbread contest on Saturday, Dec. 7 in conjunction with the Thompson Falls Christmas Parade and Bazaar.

This will be the 27th annual event at the Thompson Falls Old Jail Museum, sponsored by the Sanders County Historical Society. This year’s theme will be “Old World Christmas” – folks are welcome to enter in the traditional gingerbread category and for the first time Lego creations will be accepted as well.

The museum would like to encourage people and groups to create an entry for the event. Entries are accepted from 10 a.m. until noon on Saturday. The public is invited to come by and vote for your favorite entries, tour the museum and browse and/or shop for unique gifts from noon until 6 p.m.

Voting by the public will be throughout the day on Saturday, Dec. 7 beginning at noon and closing at 6 p.m. The museum will be open on Sunday, Dec. 8 from noon-2 p.m., for the participants to retrieve their entries and the prize winners are announced.

Gingerbread themed gift basket raffles and a silent auction will be held in conjunction with these events on Saturday at the museum.

A traditional gingerbread creation entry should be no larger than 18x24 at the base. All the entries should be on a sturdy foundation for easy transport. All materials displayed should be “edible – no enhancements that are plastic, metal, etc.”

Entry categories are child, ages 7 and under; youth, 8 to 12; teens 13 to 18; adults-individuals 19+; and families/group. Category winners receive $25 for their entries and then a $100 prize will be awarded to the overall winner, along with the “Auntie A” designation in honor of the late Alice Nakamura.

The new Lego “Gingerland” contest will have two categories, ages 0 to 14, and ages 15+. This new “twist” will allow non-bakers a chance to display their artistic talent. A $10 prize will be awarded in each category. Museum volunteers are excited to see what creations show up for this additional contest.

The museum is a 501C3 nonprofit corporation. Admission fees are waived for this event.  Any questions can be directed to tfoldjailmusem@gmail.com.

More information and entry forms are available at “Old Jail Museum – Sanders County Jail Museum” on Facebook.
