Bobcats volleyball team falls at Mission

Not only did the Superior Bobcats volleyball team run into the conference co-leaders this past week, they also had to deal with a power outage. 

So it went for the Bobcats as they continue to seek their first match win of the season.  They began the week Tuesday with a road trip to St. Ignatius where they were lost in three sets to the Lady Bulldogs. 

This past Thursday, they were scheduled to play a match in Troy, but an electrical power outage to the Troy gym wiped that match out, albeit temporarily. 

Then, this past Saturday, they hosted the unbeaten Eureka and were swept 3-0 by the Lady Lions. 

Tuesday’s game versus Mission in St. Ignatius was much closer than the final match tally indicated. 

Mission, which got 12 kill shots from two different players during the match, won the first set 25-20 in what was a hard-won set.  That win put Mission up 1-0 in the match. 

The Bulldogs made it a 2-0 match lead with a 25-10 win in the second set.  But the Lady Cats gave it their all in the third set, pushing the final score to the limit before falling to Mission 25-23. 

Alecia Steele and Cora Matta had 12 kills each for the Bulldogs in their win. 

Thursday the Lady Bobcats were “powered out” in their scheduled match with Troy.  They were notified that the entire Troy gym had lost power, forcing the match to be postponed. 

Next up was a power problem of another kind as the league co-leaders came to town.  The Eureka Lady Lions showed why they are unbeaten so far this year when they roared out to a 17-0 lead in the first set on their way to a dominating win and a 1-0 match lead. 

The Lady Lions kept up the attack in the second set, taking an early 11-4 lead, then holding off a brief Superior rally as they secured a 2-0 match lead with a 25-12 set two win. 

Eureka wrapped up the sweep with a 25-7 win in the final set. 

Aubrey Casazza had a match-high 14 kill shots for the Lions, who also got 22 assists from Annie Vaughn and 14 digs from Sam Day. 

Next on the schedule for the Lady Bobcats is a home match this Thursday (Oct 3) with Mission, their only scheduled match of the week.  They travel to Thompson Falls on October 8 for a match versus the Lady Hawks.
