To quote L.M. Montgomery the author of Anne of Green Gables, “I'm so glad I live in a world where there are Octobers.”

This month is full of changing leaves, cozy sweaters, soups and ciders, harvest time and winter preparations. But it is also full of exciting community events and gatherings all around Mineral County.

On Oct. 19, a scarecrow making workshop and party will take place at the St. Regis Senior Center, beginning at 2:30 p.m. The center will provide old clothes, stuffing material, and hot cocoa for everyone to enjoy while creating scarecrows together. This event will aim to bolster the Scarecrow Row participation later in the month and encourage new scarecrow builders.

The Mineral County Helpline will be hosting their Annual Fall Bazaar also on Oct. 19, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Superior Elementary Gym. There will be tons of amazing vendors, a free kid’s craft table, food by donation only, and much more. If you are interested in being a vendor there are still spots available, please reach out to Cassandra Hewitt to get registered.

Mineral Moms Community group is also getting in on the harvest fun. Thursday October 24, at 5:30 p.m., come paint pumpkins, drink apple cider and eat yummy treats. This is free to all Mineral County moms. The activity will be held in the space behind River Side Soup and Sandz, come in through the left side door.

The St. Regis Fall Festival will take place on Oct. 26 this year, this event is co-sponsored by New Day Fellowship and the St. Regis Community Council. From 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Tiger Street next to St. Regis School will be closed off to traffic and transformed into carnival row with trunk or treating, games, music, a cake walk, snacks and cocoa. Those hoping to participate in the trunk or treat need to have vehicles parked and in place by 2:30 p.m.

Following the festival judging will take place at 5 p.m. at Scarecrow Row along the walking path on highway 135 in St. Regis. Then the Fall Dinner and Dance will commence at 6 p.m. at the St. Regis Community Center, scarecrow winners will be announced at the dance.

Down in Alberton, the school will be putting on their very own Fall Carnival in the cafeteria along with a haunted hallway, cake walk, snacks, and free games with prizes on Oct. 26, from 1 to 3 p.m.

The Mineral County Rec Club is sponsoring Superiors first ever Halloween Witches Ride on Wednesday, Oct. 30. Come as a scary witch, a happy witch, a dark witch, or a bright witch. This first-time "No Host" event is free for anyone wanting to join. Dress up in any witch, warlock, or calaveras (Día De Los Muertos - Day Of The Dead) costumes, hop on your bicycle, tricycle, tandem bike, scooter, or skateboard. Then head over to Eva Horning Park at 6 p.m. on Oct. 30.

From there, you are welcome to ride in a large group or break into smaller groups and share some Halloween spirit with the community. There is no pre-planned route, people can ride as little or as long as they want. Fun recommendations, bring a portable speaker and share some music, or decorate with some LED Lights. This is a no-host event, meaning parents are advised to accompany children who want to participate. Visibility lights are encouraged.
