Log truck driver rescued following Highway 56 wreck

The driver of a log truck was injured after it crashed into the Bull River late Wednesday morning on Highway 56 in Sanders County, six miles south of the Lincoln County line.

Numerous first responders and others worked to get the man out of the truck after it left the road. The truck, which had Sanders County plates, lost its load of logs and came to rest on top of them, keeping the vehicle largely out of the water.

The man driving the truck was trapped inside the cab of the truck for more than an hour before he was rescued and taken to Cabinet Peaks Medical Center. 

The truck was northbound on Highway 56 when it skidded and went off the the left side of the road. It went over the bank and came to rest on its roof. The load of logs ended up in the river.

A deputy with the Sanders County Sheriff’s Office said the man was conscious and speaking while he was still in the truck.

Those responding and assisting at the scene included Noxon Rural Fire Department, Troy Volunteer Ambulance, Bull Lake Fire Department, Montana Department of Transportation and Big Sky Lumber.
