Loss drops St. Regis to 4-4 in conference action
If the volleyball match between St. Regis and Lincoln this past Saturday is any indication, the upcoming Western 13C District tournament ought to be a humdinger.
With the post-season looming on the near horizon, the Lynx downed St. Regis 3-1 in Lincoln, a match with potential tournament seeding at stake.
And, as others have found out this season, the Lynx had a Tiger by the tail most of the way in their home court victory.
Lincoln won the first set 25-18 in what was a hard-won victory that staked them to a 1-0 match lead.
In the second set, the results were mostly the same, as Lincoln established a 2-0 match advantage with a 25-16 win.
But the Lady Tigers were not done.
St. Regis cranked up their game and fought off a Lincoln team looking for a sweep in the third set. St. Regis pull from a late tie and scored the final four points of the set on their way to a 25-21 win that trimmed the Lincoln match lead to 2-1.
The fourth set was also a back and forth, hard-fought event, that ended with Lincoln holding off a determined St. Regis squad with a 25-20 win that gave the home team a 3-1 match victory.
The loss dropped St. Regis to 4-4 in conference play and 5-7 overall. Lincoln’s win boosted them to 4-3 in the conference.
St. Regis closes out its regular season schedule with a road match this Thursday (Oct 24) in Drummond, followed by a home match against Troy this coming Saturday (Oct 26).
District tournament play begins October 31 at Skagit College in Pablo.
