St. Regis volleyball drops two
It was a hard week of volleyball for the St. Regis Lady Tigers, who faced a pair of volleyball powers this one, losing in Drummond, 3-0, then falling at home to Charlo, also by a 3-0 score.
The Lady Tigers put up a good fight against Drummond Thursday despite falling 25-11 in the first set. In that win, the Lady Trojans took a 3-0 lead, then steadily expanded it the rest of the way en route to a 25-11 set one victory and a 1-0 match lead.
The Lady Tigers regrouped and pushed Drummond to the max in set number two before falling 27-25 in a set that was tied numerous times, including 25-25. Drummond managed to score the final two points to take the set and grab a hard-won 2-0 match advantage.
Set three was a carbon copy of the opening set, with the two teams tied at 3, 4 and 5 before the Trojans went on a run and pulled away for a 25-11 lead that clinched the 3-0 match sweep.
Earlier in the week, the Tigers hosted Charlo, currently fourth in the We3stern 13C standings, right behind Drummond.
And traditional power Vikings wasted no time taking a 1-0 match lead with a 25-10 opening set win.
They followed that win with a 25-12 set two triumph, giving them a 2-0 match advantage. Charlo then clinched the sweep with a 25-15 win in the third set.
The Vikings improved to 9-3 on the season and 8-2 in Western 13C play with the win, while St. Regis fell to 5-8-1 overall and 4-5 in conference play.
Both teams will take part this weekend (beginning Thursday, Oct 31) in the 13C District tournament, held this year at Skagit College in Pablo.
