Lady Bobcats volleyball take on Wardens
One thing is for certain, the young Superior Lady Bobcats volleyball does not give up.
And they will get better as the 2024 Montana Class B season goes on.
Three games into the new season, the Lady Cats have shown they will battle to the end in a conference loaded with talented, experienced teams.
They squared off with two of those Western Conference teams this past week and experienced that talent firsthand.
With just three senior son a roster which has five juniors and two sophomores, experience will come to a group with some promising young talent.
The Lady Cats began their week with a road trip to Deer Lodge to face the Lady Wardens, who opened their season last Tuesday in Superior.
The taller Wardens jumped out to an 11-5 lead in the first set on their way to locking up a 25-9 victory and taking a 1-0 match lead.
Deer Lodge, aka Powell County High, continued over-powering the Lady Bobcats, building a 9-1 lead in the early moments of the second set. They held the lead the rest of the way, leading 21-10 at one point on their way to a 25-13 win and a 2-0 match lead.
The Lady Wardens continued their explosive play in what turned out to be the third and final set, piling up a 9-4 lead out of the gate. They maintained that advantage on their way to a match-clinching 25-11 third set triumph.
The win, along with a loss to Twin Bridges later last week and a victory over always tough Mission High, left them with a 2-1 record so far this year.
This past Saturday afternoon, Superior hosted another conference foe, the Anaconda Lady Copperheads.
Against the visitors, Superior battled throughout the first two sets, overcoming an early Anaconda lead in the points of an oft-tied opening set. Each time the Lady Cats earned a tie, Anaconda answered with short rallies. The set was last tied a 15-all, before the Lady Copperheads acquired and maintained a three to four point lead, capped by a hard-fought 25-19 set two victory. That gave the visitors a 2-0 match lead.
The third set was all Anaconda as the visitors raced to a 9-0 early lead and never looked back. The Lady Copperheads wrapped up a three-set sweep with a 25-5 win in the final set.
Next up for the Lady Bobcats match this Thursday (Sept 12) with the Thompson Falls Lady Hawks. They hit the road Saturday (Sept 14) for a 1 p.m. game in Plains against the Trotters.
