Superior standoff suspect taken into custody
Local law enforcement apprehended a suspect following a standoff Sept. 4 in Superior.
According to information from Mineral County Sheriff Office Ryan Funke, dispatchers received a call about a dozen shots being fired at about 8:30 p.m. in the vicinity of the post office.
Deputies and Montana Highway Patrol troopers responded and found a man who was requesting help. Deputies determined the man was the suspect of the shooting. He allegedly stated he was armed with several firearms and the retreated back into his motorhome and barricaded himself inside.
Missoula County Sheriff’s Office Tactical Team was contacted to assist, but the suspect surrendered before the team was deployed.
He was taken into custody without incident and transported to the Mineral County Detention Facility.
Deputies received a search warrant for the suspect’s motorhome and the scene was processed. The investigation is ongoing, according to Funke.
Montana Highway Patrol, Missoula County, Missoula City, Superior Fire and Superior EMS crews assisted in the response.
