Crews were able to contain the Bemish Fire in the Swamp Creek area west of Plains last week.

On Friday, the fire was sized at 2.23 acres. It was burning on the Plains-Thompson Falls Ranger District and within the footprint of the 2017 Sheep Gulch fire with heavy dead standing snags. Firefighters had completed saw line around the fire.

The fire area received precipitation last week and minimal fire activity was expected due to low temperatures and increased moisture over the weekend.

The Cherry Fire near the confluence of Prospect Creek and Dry Creek south of Thompson Falls was also controlled last week. It was sized at 2.6 acres.

Fire danger remained at high on the Lolo Forest.
