SeptemBEAR hunt in St. Regis

250 rocks were hidden in the wooded areas along the St. Regis Community Park. Bears that were painted gold were prize bears, as well as bears painted with ice cream cones won ice cream from Winki's.

    Akin to the frenzy of an Easter egg hunt, kids and adults alike ran around the forest searching high and low for uniquely painted rocks with bears on them. (Mineral Independent/Amy Quinlivan)
 
 
    Kelly Morrison, with the St. Regis Senior Center was decked out in her camo hunter blow up bear costume. She led the rock bear hunters in the classic "We're going on a bear hunt" song before the action began on Saturday morning. (Mineral Independent Amy Quinlivan)

    Even Smokey the Bear from the Superior Forest Service office came by for a special visit. Following the scavenger hunt hungry bear hunters ate hot dogs and drank warm refreshments provided by the St. Regis Senior Center as they looked through their rock collections they had found. This bear hunter wanted to show Smokey his lego set he won as a prize. (Mineral Independent/Amy Quinlivan)
 
 


    The first Annual SeptemBear Hunt was "Beary" successful and Kelly Morrison along with the St. Regis Senior Center look forward to putting it on again next year and making it an endearing family and community tradition. (Mineral Independent/Amy Quinlivan)
