Plains sweeps team titles at T-Falls Invitational
Plains continues to roll in track and field as they swept the men’s and women’s team titles at this past week’s Thompson Falls Invitational meet in T Falls.
The Plains Horsemen won the men’s team crown via 97.5 team points, while meet host Thompson Falls placed second with 81 points.
In the women’s team competition, Plains piled up 96 points to edge out Lincoln (87) for the team title. St. Regis was third with 80 points and T Falls was fourth (73).
Plains’ men used their depth and talent in a multitude of events, topped by the twin sprints wins by Italian exchange student Luciano Ferranti, who swept the 100 and 200-meter sprints. Ferranti was also a member of Plains first-place 4X100 relay team and the second-place 4X400 team.
Noxon’s Chance McDaid was third in the 200 meters with a time of 25.43. He also had a fourth-place finish in the 100-meter event. St. Regis junior Barrett Bassette was fifth in the 100-meter race, and Plains sophomore Greg Tatum came in tied with Bassette.
The Horsemen also got a first-place finish from Cooper Meredith in the high jump (5-6), a first in the 3200-meter run by freshman Weston Block and a win in the men’s 110-meter hurdles by sophomore Cody West (17.19). West also finished second in the men’s 300-meter hurdles.
St. Regis eighth grader Tucker DeSoto was fourth in the 300-meter event, while Noxon’s Chance McDaid finished fifth. The event was won by Lincoln senior Teagan Riddle (43.25). DeSoto also placed third in the 110-meter hurdles competition, just ahead of Plains sophomore Meredith.
Plains also got team points from senior Darren Standeford who placed second in the javelin (144-05), and fifth in the discus (114-07).
Thompson Falls senior Ian Myers won the javelin with a throw of 157-04, while teammate Brylon VanElswyk was third (141-05). Noxon senior Shane Murray was fifth (134-09) and St. Regis senior Hunter Stolla took sixth with a throw of 127-01.
Noxon multiple sport standout Ricky Williams won the long jump with a leap of 20-05. T Falls’ Myers was sixth (17-08). Williams also placed fourth in the discus (117-10).
Myers was also third in the 400-meter run with a time of 55.91.
Thompson Falls senior Braedon Ferris had another outstanding day for the Blue Hawks, winning the discus event with a toss of 157-02. Teammates Zack Ames and Gabe Hutton were sixth and seventh respectively in discus.
Ferris was also second in the shot put with a throw of 39-08, while teammate Hutton was third (39-07) and Ames was fifth (39-01). Plains Caleb Lakko and Greg Tatum were sixth and seventh for the Blue Hawks.
Sophomore Hank Stone was third in the pole vault for T Falls.
Alberton junior Shea Fredette also had a good meet, winning the men’s 400-meter run with a time of 53.94 and placing second in the triple jump with a hop, skip and jump of 39-03. St. Ignatius’ Isaac Umphrey won the triple jump with a mark of 38-03.75.
Nathan Bohn of St. Regis was third in the triple jump at 36-04.75.
Plains continued their recent success in the women’s competition, once again paced by senior Alexis Deming’s wins in the discus and shot put. The two-time defending Class B discus state champion won the event with a throw of 117-09, well ahead of runner up Remi Dietz of Lincoln (85-04). Alberton senior Georgia Fredette was fourth with a throw of 81-00.
Deming won the shot put with a heave of 38-06.
Plains sophomore Marina Tulloch, the defending Class B state cross-country champ, won the 800-meter run with a time of 2:40.75, while T Falls sophomore Evy Edwards was fourth (2:56.35).
Junior Kali Tuma continued her winning ways for the Trotters with victories in the 400-meter run (1:07.56), just ahead of Thompson Falls freshman Lexi Franck (1:07.87). St. Regis senior Kyla Bush was third (1:11.90), and Tulloch placed fourth (1:12.43).
Tuma also won the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 51.37, while Bush was second (56.41) and Plains junior Katelyn Subatch was third (56.57).
Plains also placed first in the women’s 4X400 meter relay with a time of 4:49.88. T Falls was second (5:14.78).
Thompson Falls sophomore Addyson Deal also had an outstanding meet, winning the javelin with a throw of 110-02. St. Regis’ Bush was fourth (80_06). Deal also had second place finishes in the pole vault (7-0) and triple jump (30-02). Lady Hawk Peighton Kenney was third with a vault of 7-0 but had more attempts than Deal.
Deal also had a fourth-place finish in the long jump (14:07.75.
Thompson Falls’ Evy Edwards won the women’s 3200 with a time of 14:54.00.
St. Regis eighth grader Cielee Mitchell opened some eyes with her performance for the Lady Tigers as she won the 100-meter sprint (13.66), nipping teammate Jamie Cleveland at the tape (13.78). Mitchell also had a first-place finish in the 200-meter sprint (28.40), while Plains freshman Hadyn Rice was second with a time of 29.37. Lexi Franck (T Falls) was third with a time of 29.91.
Mitchell added a second-place finish in the 100-meter hurdles to her daily haul.
St. Regis junior Lilly Sansom won the women’s 1600-meter run, crossing the finish line at 6:52.90.
The St. Regis 4X100 relay team finished first in a three-team race, with a time of 55.72 while Lincoln was second (56.41.
Next up for local track and field athletes is the Top Ten meet today (April 22) at Missoula County Public Stadium, followed by the Choteau Invitational this Thursday (April 24)
