Savage Horsemen go 0-3
The quest for victory number one goes on for the Thompson Falls-Noxon baseball team after a tough week gone by.
The Savage Horsemen went 0-3 three this past week, losing to Whitefish 15-0 to start the week this past Tuesday, then falling to Mission-Arlee-Charlo (MAC) 10-2 at midweek.
They closed out the week with a 10-0 defeat at the hands of Troy, the surprise unbeaten team in the Western conference this past Saturday.
In the game against Whitefish in Whitefish, the score stood 0-0 after one inning of play, but in the bottom of the second, the Bulldogs put up six runs to take the lead.
The repeated that score in the third inning, with Whitefish pushing across six more scores while holding the Savage Horsemen scoreless in the top of the third.
TFN, which was held to one hit for the game, could not score in the top of the fourth inning. But the home team put up another three spot in the bottom of the fourth giving them a 15-0 lead. That invoked the Mercy rule on scoring limits and ended the game after four innings.
Ryan Conklin led the Bulldogs with a 2-4 day at the plate and three RBIs. Tait Orme was 2-2 with a pair of runs driven in, and Carter Godsey also drove in a pair of runs for the home team.
TFN got one hit for the game, from Shane Hatchell.
Thursday found the T Falls-Noxon boys in St. Ignatius for a conference game versus MAC. The home standing Bulldogs got on the scoreboard first with a solo run in the bottom of the first.
Neither team scored in the second, but TFN put up one run in the top of the third to tie the game at 1-1. In their half of the third inning, MAC scored three times.
Noxon-T Falls put another run on the scoreboard in the top of the fourth, but MAC answered that run with four more of their own in the bottom of the fourth, putting them up 8-2.
The home boys plated two more runs in the bottom of the sixth, then held Noxon-T Falls scoreless in the top of the seventh to seal the win.
Both teams had four hits in the game, but Noxon-T Falls committed eight errors in the loss.
Justice Kayser, Shane Hatchell, CJ Yoder and Logan Buckner had one hit each for the Savage Horsemen.
From St. Ignatius the Horsemen journeyed north to Troy for a game with the unbeaten Trojans (8-0).
The Trojans took a 4-0 lead after one inning, then scored three more times in the bottom of the second to go up 7-0.
Troy added three more runs in the bottom of the fourth, then wrapped up the 10-0 win when NTF failed to score in the top of the fifth.
Troy outhit Noxon-T Falls 5-2, while the Savage Horsemen made nine errors in the field. Yoder and Michael Koskela had one hit each for the Horsemen.
Noxon-T Falls travels to Plains today (April 21) for a game against Sanders County rival Plains-Hot Springs, which got their first win of the year this past week.
