Doubles duo Jasper and Quick rally for upset win
In a very ambitious schedule, Superior tennis team played against some of the top teams and players in the state, including Simms, Loyola, Valley Christian, and Mission.
First up was Missoula Loyola which had too much veteran depth for the youthful Bobcat as the Rams won all the lower seeded matches for a 4-2 victory. The Bobcats picked up two wins from their top two seeds with Josie Crabb winning 6-3,6-4.
In the match of the year for the Cats, number one doubles of Perri Jasper and Cami Quick fell behind Loyola 0-3 in the first set before rallying behind net game, improved serves to win the set 7-5. They went down and couldn't back the second set losing 2-6. Then going down 2-6 in the third set tiebreaker, the magic seemed to reappear as they won the next eight points for a scintillating 7-5, 2-6, (10-6) hard fought upset victory.
The second match of the day with Valley appeared to be a repeat of the Loyola match with the top seeds providing victories and lower seeds struggling. At least until the eighth-grade tandem of Mady Neu and Alyza Wickham came to the rescue with a 6-3,6-4 victory for the tie with Valley Christian.
On Friday, Superior played two schools that were shorthanded but had an abundance of talent.
Against Simms, both Bobcat number ones had their nine game winning streaks ended as Crabb lost 2-6,3-6 to a player that could be a favorite to win state this year.
Meanwhile, the doubles team of Quick and Jasper lost in a third set tiebreaker 2-6,6-3, (8-10).
In the last match of the day against Mission, Superior won all three contested matches.
Violet Blanco, freshman, won her first varsity singles match 6-1,6-4.
And the doubles teams of McKenna Greuter and Kamryn Church, eighth graders, were victorious 6-2,6-3 and were joined by Mady Neu and Alyza Wickham who were also winners 6-1,6-4.
