Shakespeare in the Parks comes to Mineral County Fairgrounds

The Mineral County Performing Arts Council is thrilled to announce a captivating evening of live theater with a free outdoor performance of "Henry V" presented by Montana Shakespeare in the Parks.

The show will take place on Thursday, Aug. 21 at 6 p.m. at the Mineral County Fairgrounds. Attendees are encouraged to bring a folding chair, refreshments, and enjoy a world-class theatrical experience.

Henry V is one of Shakespeare’s most gripping histories, exploring enduring themes of justice, leadership, and mercy. The play follows the young and charismatic King Henry as he evolves from a carefree prince into a courageous leader, ultimately leading his outnumbered English forces to victory against France at the famed Battle of Agincourt. Known for its intense battle scenes and stirring speeches, including the iconic “band of brothers” monologue, this is a crowd pleaser.

Now in its 53rd year, Montana Shakespeare in the Parks remains committed to bringing high-caliber, free Shakespearean theater to rural and underserved communities across the Rocky Mountain West. This summer alone, the company is performing 79 shows across 65 communities in five states, continuing a mission rooted in accessibility and cultural enrichment. 

“Giving young people the opportunity to experience these shows is the cornerstone of what we do and is the reason we’re still around after five decades,” said Kevin Asselin, Executive Artistic Director of MSIP. 

Founded out of Montana State University's College of Arts and Architecture, MSIP is one of the oldest and largest touring Shakespeare companies in the United States. The program is sustained through grants, private donations, and partnerships with organizations like the Great Falls Public Library Foundation, Great Falls Theatre Company, and community supporters throughout the region.

This summer’s cast includes 11 talented performers chosen from nearly 400 applicants nationwide. Among them is Avery Johnson, a 23-year-old actor from Arlington, Virginia, who returns to MSIP to take on the title role in Henry V. Johnson also plays Corin in the company’s second touring production, As You Like It. 

Whether you're a lifelong Shakespeare fan or a first-time theatergoer, Henry V promises a moving, action-packed evening of entertainment for all ages. This event is free and open to the public, with first-come, first-served seating.
