Active fire weather sparked up a new blaze near Paradise over the weekend.

According to the CSKT Division of Fire, the new start cropped up Sunday, Aug. 17 in the Knowles Creek area. The Knowles Fire was first estimated at 20 acres but ballooned to 250 acres within an hour.

Due to access difficulties, firefighters were being shuttled across the Clark Fork River in boats. A type 3 incident management team was ordered.

Departments on the initial response included Plains DNRC, Plains/Thompson Falls Ranger District, Superior Ranger District and Plains Paradise Rural Fire Department.

A 20-person hand crew was assisting three helicopters and two large airtankers.

According to the CSKT Division of Fire, several fires were detected Sunday along the Highway 200 corridor along the southwest area of the Flathead Indian Reservation.

One of the fires was reported at mile marker 91, with another just west of Dixon.
