Tuesday afternoon near mile marker 59, an eastbound minivan safely pulled over to the shoulder driven by unnamed male driver who exited the vehicle safely as it became engulfed in flames.

There were no injuries, and the origin of the fire is unknown. Superior Fire Chief Scott Dodd and MCSO Deputy Ben Banks agreed to shut down all east bound lanes for safety until the fire could be controlled which was approximately 25 minutes.

The fire did briefly travel into adjacent grass/pasture but was quickly contained and thankfully did not turn into a much bigger wildland fire. Responding agencies were Superior Volunteer Fire Department both Station 1 (Superior Town) and Station 2 (Tarkio).

The Mineral County Sheriff’s Deputies, Montana Highway Patrol, Montana Department of Transportation, and US Forest Service Nine Mile District.
