Lady Bobcats get two conference wins
With the basketball regular season coming to an end this weekend, every game takes on added importance, particularly seeding for the District 7B tournament two weeks hence.
The Superior Lady Bobcats picked up a pair of conference wins this past week, defeating Plains 54-31 Friday night in Plains, then walloping Troy 70-36 Saturday night in Superior.
For the Superior boys, it was frustrating experience against the same two teams as the girls played, as the Bobcats fell to Plains 62-52 Friday night, then lost a one-point thriller to Troy, 53-52 Saturday night in Superior.
Superior’s girls improved to 5-2 over their last seven games with the victories over Plains and Troy.

Saturday evening the Lady Cats took on Troy and once again jumped out to an early lead, 18-10, after the first eight minutes. The Bobcats cranked up the defense in the second quarter, holding Plains to five points while scoring 16 of their own. That gave the home team a 34-15 halftime edge.

Mangold was the game’s leading scorer with 23 points, while teammate Perri Jasper tossed in 21 for the winners. Troy was led in scoring by Aspen Orr, who had 14 for the Trojans.

Landon Richards, Superior’s 6-4 sophomore post, had six points in the second quarter, but Plains overall play, backed by the 22 points from senior guard Darren Standeford and 21 from senior forward Zayden Allen was able to pull away from the visitors in the second half.
After three quarters of play, Plains was ahead 44-39. The Horsemen outscored Superior 18-13 in the fourth quarter enroute to the 10-point conference win.
