Allen Harry Burgess, 77
Allen Harry Burgess (Punky), 77, of Plains, passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Feb. 11, 2025. Allen was born on Nov. 28, 1947, in Missoula. He was the first son of Andrew and Gloria Burgess.
He graduated from Hot Springs High School and obtained a mechanical degree as well as a degree in air conditioning and refrigeration from Trenton College in Illinois. Allen joined the Army in May of 1970 and was stationed in Fort Sill, Oklahoma. Allen and his long-time companion, Joanne Welch (Tootie) resided in Camas Prairie.
Allen was known for his unmatched ability to fix anything with a set of tools and a bit of ingenuity. Allen was a true craftsman, a dedicated farmer, and a steadfast friend. Allen grew up with a love for the land and machinery. His early years on the family farm shaped his passion for both, and over time he became the go-to mechanic in the community. Whether it was an old tractor, a broken-down truck, or a piece of equipment that seemed beyond repair, Allen could always get it running again, often better than before.
Allen is survived by his long-time companion, Joanne Welch, and his son Michael Pentz (Tamee Pentz and Jordan Pentz), and his sister, Sandra Burgess Miller. Allen is preceded in death by his parents, Andrew and Gloria Burgess and his brother, Kenny Burgess.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Camas Prairie Neighbors.
