Heroics from St. Regis firefighters
I want to call attention to the actions of volunteer firefighter Clint Wolff with the St. Regis Fire Department.
On the evening of Feb. 5, West End and St. Regis fire departments were paged out for a reported house fire in DeBorgia. West End arrived first and St Regis about 10 minutes later.
Upon initial arrival, residents reported that the occupant was still inside. West End twice attempted to enter and search but was unsuccessful. The structure interior was superheated and entirely filled with smoke; the initial attempt to enter had even resulted in a backdraft.
Upon their arrival, the St. Regis firefighters created a three-person team and successfully entered, searched and retrieved the occupant. The lead person, wearing a respirator and heat-resistant gear, who entered on his stomach, was Clint Wolff. He was closely supported by the other two team members, Jerry Dockter and Kat Kittridge. (The occupant was unresponsive, and later determined to have died of smoke inhalation.)
I cannot stress enough the extent to which this structure was generating heat, smoke and scalding steam; Clint truly put himself at real risk of serious injury.
