Thanks to all who have supported MCCF
First, I’d like to thank the many volunteers and donors to an organization I’ve been involved in for over thirty years, the Mineral County Community Foundation (MCCF). These are the folks who made volunteering for a non-profit fun and worthwhile, and I thank you for that.
When Crown Pacific (formerly DAW, originally Diamond Match) gave 165 employees their pink slips, i.e. “you’re fired” notices, there were many employees and community members who were upset. Actually, “upset” doesn’t describe the emotion. As one member said, “Liz, the guys are ready to turn over trucks and light them on fire!!”
So when you say, “Is there any way I can help?” you’d better be ready to jump in with both feet! And more than 30 years later I feel like I’ve given my all… and it’s time to pass the reins to new leadership. Having spent the last three decades learning much about the county I chose to live and work in, I am recently stepping down from MCCF.
The crisis that Superior and Mineral County experienced in 1994 is now at the door of Seeley Lake with the Pyramid sawmill closing. It’s a difficult time, but with grit and determination they will build new businesses and find a new way, just like Superior did. Mineral County will continue to make improvements and MCCF will always be here continuing to support them.
Again, a hearty thanks to everyone who helps with improving Mineral County!
