Superior wrestlers place at Ronan Duals
The wrestling school in this area that has the smallest number of wrestlers on its roster was the lone representative from Sanders and Mineral counties during this past weekend’s Western Montana Invitational, aka the Ronan Duals.
Superior, which had just six wrestlers out for the annually successful program run by head coach Charlie Crabb, including a state championship and several individual state champions, sent four wrestlers to the Ronan event and got a second-place finish from sophomore 157-pounder Turner Milender.
The meet attracted grapplers from more than 20 area schools who competed in both boys’ and girls’ competitions. The boys meet had 24 teams and 303 wrestlers registered to compete, while the girls' event had 22 teams with 150 competitors.
No wrestlers from the area’s three wrestling program schools, Plains, Thompson Falls or Superior took part in the girls' competition.
Plains and Thompson Falls did not have any wrestlers entered in the boys' event either.
Milender, who placed fifth at the state Class B-C meet last year as a freshman, finished second in Ronan, lost a tough 15-8 decision to Columbia Falls High’s Dylan Delome.
Milender has already scored victories in several area early season meets and has a 17-4 record so for this season.
Also competing for Superior at the Ronan meet were 126-pounder Dylon Arbogast and a pair of 150-pounders, Sam Doughty and Ethan Durovey.
All three local teams will be in action this coming weekend (Friday and Saturday) at the annual Cut Bank Invitational.
