For the St. Regis boys’ basketball team, it was another week on the job, as they took care of business with a pair of victories that kept the unbeaten season record intact at 8-0.

They began the week Friday night in Seeley and came away with a 57-51 Western 13C conference win. Saturday night, at home, the Tigers took on class B Troy and put them away 53-42.

The St. Regis girls, meanwhile, split a pair of games against the same two opponents, falling to Seeley Friday by a 56-20 score, then snapping back at home where they downed Troy’s girls 64-48.

In their game Friday in Seeley, the St. Regis boys engaged in a back-and-forth exchange that ended in a 11-11 tie after one quarter of play.

The Tigers used their high-energy defense to hold Seeley to five points in the second quarter while scoring 14 of their own, giving them a 25-16 halftime advantage.

But Seeley charged back after the halftime break, outscoring St. Regis 21-15 to pull even with the Tigers, 40-40, heading into the final quarter of regulation play.

However, behind their defense and the scoring of standout sophomore guard Conner Lulis, St. Regis regained the lead and held off the determined Blackhawks to secure the hard-fought, six-point victory.

Lulis finished with a game-best 25 points, while Seeley was paced by Derrick Brovold, who tossed in 22 for the home team.

Back at home Saturday night, St. Regis fell behind 11-7 to Troy.  However, they got things going better in the second quarter, outscoring the Trojans 13-10 and sending the two teams into the halftime intermission with Troy leading 21-20.

St. Regis came out after halftime and unleashed their defense on the visitors, holding them to four points while scoring 22 of their own.  That outburst gave them a 42-25 lead with one quarter to play.

Troy rallied over the final eight minutes, outscoring St. Regis 17-11 in the fourth quarter but it was not enough to overcome the Tigers’ lead.

Senior Hunter Stolla led the Tigers with 11 points, while Lulis chipped in 10.

The St. Regis girls got off to a good start in the opening quarter against the Lady Blackhawks, which ended with the home team holding a 12-10 lead.

However, the Seeley defense held the visitors to 10 points total over the next three quarters.  At halftime Seeley held a 31-15 lead, then outscored the Lady Tigers 25-6 in the second half to cement the overwhelming win.

It was a different story Saturday night at home for the Lady Tigers in their game with Troy.

The two teams battled to a 13-13 tie after the first quarter of play, then outscored the Lady Trojans 12-9 in the second quarter to take a 25-22 lead into the halftime break.

St. Regis got their offense rolling in the third quarter, tossing in 23 points on their way to a 48-38 lead with eight minutes left to play.

The Lady Tigers added six points to their lead in the fourth quarter to seal up the non-conference win.

The win lifted St. Regis to 4-3 on the year.

Next up for the St. Regis boys’ and girls' teams is a road game down Interstate 90 Thursday (Jan 16) for a pair of games against Alberton.  The Tigers and Lady Tigers return home this Friday (Jan 17) where they will host Western 13C conference Charlo.
