It would be an understatement to say Thompson Falls boys and girls had a good night in their rivalry games against Plains this past Friday night in Thompson Falls.

The T Falls boys beat their Plains counterparts 72-41, while the Thompson Falls girls scored an almost identical victory over the Trotters, 72-41.

For the Blue Hawks boys, who improved their season mark to 7-3 with the win, a rapid start that left Plains with a game-long deficit began in the first quarter when they outscored Plains 17-5.

The Horsemen, who were playing without the services of their standout point guard, senior Darren Standeford, who is out with an unspecified injury, fought back in the second quarter but Thompson Falls still managed to increase their lead to 35-20 at the half.

Blue Hawks senior forward Bryson LeCoure, who last week passed the 1,000-points mark for his illustrious basketball career at T Falls, paced a balanced scoring attack with 16 points.  At the same time, the Blue Hawks defense held Plains in check for most of the game as they cruised to victory.

Thompson Falls outscored Plains 37-21 in the second half, with reserves getting valuable playing time for both teams.

Standeford is expected to be out for the next few weeks, according to Plains head coach Tyrel Allen.

In addition to LeCoure’s 16 points, the Blue Hawks also got double-figure scoring from Owen Dolye (10) and Kaiden Robins (10) as nine players scored for the victors.  Kellen LeCoure led the Blue Hawks in rebounding with eight for the game.

Zayden Allen led Plains with a game-high 17 points.  The loss dropped the Horsemen to 4-5 on the year and 1-2 in the Western 7B conference.  Thompson Falls moved to 2-0 in conference play, good for a first-place tie with surprising Troy.

The outcome was nearly identical for the Thompson Falls girls, who opened a commanding 26-8 lead after the first quarter of their game with the Trotters.

Plains regrouped and outscored T Falls 12-9 in the second quarter to cut the home team lead to 35-20, the same halftime score as the boys.

The Lady Hawks came out of the halftime break and amped up their defensive pressure, holding the visitors to five points in the third quarter, while the T Falls offense put up 22 points.  Four Lady Hawks scored in double figures, topped by the game-high 19 points from Addy Deal.

The two teams scored 14 points each in the fourth quarter as the Lady Hawks rolled to the conference win, squaring their overall record at 5-5 while improving their 7B mark to 2-0.

Sophomore forward Ava Lawyers led the Trotters with 12 points, while teammate Katelyn Subatch chipped in 11 points.

The loss dropped Plains to 6-4 on the year and 2-2 in 7B play.

Next up for Plains is a pair of home games (boys and girls) this Thursday (Jan 23) versus Mission, then Saturday night against Eureka.

T Falls, which played Eureka Saturday in T Falls, hosts Troy this Thursday, then travels to Superior for a conference game with the Lady Bobcats Saturday evening.
