Bobcats get conference win at St. Ignatius

The Superior Bobcats and Lady Bobcats split a pair of road games against St. Ignatius on Friday night, with the boys pulling out a 52-44 Western 13C conference victory over the Bulldogs.
St. Ignatius squared the account when the Bulldogs girls ran away from the Superior girls 49-32, also a conference game.
The boys’ game was a close battle most of the night with the two teams knotted at 16 each after one quarter of play. Defense ruled the second quarter for both teams, which saw St. Ignatius outscore Superior 8-5 to take a 24-21 halftime edge.
Superior fought back in the second half, outscoring the home team 18-11 in the third quarter to take a 39-35 lead going into the final eight minutes of regulation.
The Bobcats added four points to their lead during the fourth quarter to sew up the hard-fought eight-point win.
St. Ignatius scoring machine Lex LaFrombois scored a game-high 28 points for the Bulldogs, who improved their overall record to 3-8.
Quinlan had 17 points to pace the Bobcats, who also got 11 points each from Landon Richards and Phin Cataldo.
In the girls’ game, St. Ignatius jumped out to a low-scoring 9-4 first quarter lead, the exploded for 21 points in the second quarter while holding Superior to four points. Entering the halftime break St. Ignatius was up 30-8.
Superior outscored St. Ignatius 24-19 in the second half, but it was too little too late to overcome the Bulldogs lead.
Braelynn Mangold led all scorers with 13 points for the game.
The win boosted St. Ignatius to 8-4 on the year, while Superior fell to 5-6 overall.
Next up for Superior boys and girls is a pair of road games this Friday (Jan 31) at Seeley-Swan. Both teams return to their home court this Saturday (Feb 1) for non-conference games versus Eureka.
