Hawks earn lopsided victories
It was a good week to be a Blue Hawk or Lady Blue Hawk basketball player as both the boys and girls teams won a pair of games this past week.
Both T Falls teams hosted Troy this past Thursday, with the boys hammering the Western 7B foe Trojans 62-40, then traveling to Superior for another conference contest and coming away with a 68-40 victory.
The Lady Hawks, meanwhile, walloped Troy’s girls 75-21, then beat Superior 60-49 Saturday night in Superior.
Thursday the Blue Hawks girls erupted for a 27-5 lead after the first eight minutes of play, then outscored the visiting Trojans 18-7 in the second quarter on their way to a commanding 45-12 halftime lead.
T Falls outscored Troy 30-9 in the second half to complete the big win over the Trojans. Four Lady Hawks’ players scored in double figures topped by Gabi Hannum and Addy Deal, who scored 15 points each, while guard Solveig Nygaard added 14 and Emma Claridge pitched in 13 for the Lady Hawks. The win boosted T Falls to 4-0 in 7B conference play and improved their overall record to 7-5. Troy fell to 2-10 and 0-6 with the loss.
Saturday night in Superior, the two teams played even up, with Superior holding a 14-13 lead after one quarter of play. The Lady Hawks outscored the Lady Bobcats 18-9 in the second quarter to take a 31-23 lead at the half.
T Falls held Superior to seven points in the third quarter while scoring 14 of their own to extend their lead to 46-30 lead heading into the fourth quarter.
Superior outscored Thompson Falls 19-15 in the fourth quarter, but it was not enough to overcome the big Lady Hawks lead. Senior forward Braelynn Mangold topped Superior with 16 points, while Maryisa Swope had 12 and Jose Crabb scored 11 for the Lady Bobcats.
Annalise Fairbank paced T Falls with 16 points, while Addy Deal added 13 and Nygaard had 11 points for the Lady Hawks.
The Thompson Falls boys also had a good pair of games this past week, beginning Thursday night against Troy, which saw the Hawks open up a hard-fought 9-4 lead after the first quarter.
Senior guard Kaiden Robins, who scored a game-high 21 points for the Blue Hawks, was instrumental in the home teams outscoring Troy 17-7 in the second quarter, giving them a 26-11 halftime advantage.
T Falls added one point to its lead in the third quarter, putting them up 41-25 heading into the final eight minutes of play. The Hawks went on to outscore Troy 21-15 in quarter number four to wrap up the 22-point conference win. In addition to Robins’ scoring, the Blue Hawks got 14 points from senior forward Bryson LeCoure and 10 each from guard Ethan Burgess and Owen Doyle.
Bryson McCormick led the Blue Hawks with seven rebounds, while four players, including Robins, LeCoure, Burgess and Kellen LeCoure had six caroms each.
Saturday night in Superior, the Blue Hawks jumped out to a 14-5 lead after one quarter of play, then played straight up with the Bobcats in the second quarter as the two teams entered the halftime break with T Falls leading 33-25.
T Falls erupted for 25 points in the third quarter behind the overall play of Bryson LeCoure, who finished with a team-best 19 points. The visitors added two points to their lead in the fourth quarter to close out the 7B conference win.
Super sophs Landon Richards (14 points) and Gannon Quinlan (13 points) topped the Bobcats in scoring.
In addition to LeCoure’s 19, the Blue Hawks also got double figure scoring from Doyle, who had 15, and Ian Myers, 12 points. Sam Burgess led the Blue Hawks in rebounding with 11 points, while McCormick grabbed 10 boards for T Falls.
The pair of victors lifted T Falls boys to 10-3 on the season and 5-0 in Western 7B play.
Next up for the Blue Hawks and Lady Blue Hawks have just one game each scheduled for this coming week, home games versus St. Ignatius this Tuesday (Jan 28).
