"Dusty Boots, Hometown Roots, and So Much More In the 54" has a friendly, welcoming title to it, which is the name of the 2025 Mineral County Fair and Superior LIONS Club ‘Go for the Gold Rodeo’ taking place July 31 through Aug. 2.

The Mineral County Fair Board spends a year organizing the event and the Superior LIONS and 4-H tie in with their portions making it a destination celebration for family and school class reunions.

The Methodist men’s pancake breakfast kicks each morning off at 7 a.m. followed by a flurry of different events each day that can be seen on the Facebook page at Mineral County Fair Superior. Thursday is family night in the arena which features Jackpot Barrel Racing from 7 to 9 p.m. Then kick up your heels to Tamarack Ridge Band.

The 24th Annual Cabin Fever Quilters Show is from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday and Saturday at the Superior High School and it is more interesting and inspiring every year that they have been doing this with quilters on hand to answer questions. Be sure and visit with this year’s Featured Quilter, Laura Diko.

The 4-H Livestock auction on Saturday afternoon at 1 p.m. will have given bidders plenty of time to examine the kid’s livestock entries.

“The final weigh-in is Thursday (July 31) and if all that have registered make the cut, it looks like we have four steers, about 18 hogs and four lambs,” reported Dave Brink, MSU Extension Agent for Mineral County.

If you’re planning on being in the parade on Saturday, line up begins at 9:30 a.m. at the top of Mullan Road where you’ll fill out your entry application, but floats won’t start moving until 11 a.m. across Veterans Bridge then east on 4th Street where it disbands near the fairgrounds.

New attractions and events are still being added but a partial-laundry list includes Bingo (kids Bingo, too), Gunny Sack Races, Tight Rope, Huge Bubbles, Kiddie Rodeo, Bike Rodeo, Mom’s Parent & Play Station, Library Story Hour, Obstacle Courses, Watermelon Eating Contest, Bee Keeping Seminar, live music, talent show, and dog show, ….and this doesn’t mention the plethora of fair-food, vegetables, photography, painting displays and floriculture entries that will be judged on Friday so ribbons will be displayed at 1 p.m. in the 4-H Quonset Building.

Guy Gould is on his 26th year as rodeo chairman and was pleased to report this might be a special one.

“Going by the schedule, our rodeo is the only one that weekend. Usually we’re up against Townsend, Harlowton, and ones of that size. They’re a week later so as NRA (National Rodeo Association), we’re the only one August first and second.”

This translates into the possibility of more cowboys and cowgirls competing. Tickets will be $18 for reserved seating and $15 for general and the LIONS Club will be selling tickets at the Mineral County Fairgrounds beer booth on July 19 and 20 from 9 a.m. to noon. Otherwise, they are for sale at Darlow’s Quality Foods and NAPA. He reported that the Superior LIONS and other volunteers have replaced the lights in the arena as well as the poles which they figured were 40 years old.

For new residents to County 54, this is the perfect time to come meet your neighbors and get a feel for ‘Dusty Boots and Hometown Roots.’
