Upgrades planned for Sanders County Fair
The Sanders County Fair Board Commission has outlined several upgrades and initiatives ahead of the 2025 fair.
Improvements include larger stalls in the 4-H horse barn by removing feed mangers, along with completed restroom fixture repairs and upcoming electrical work in the commercial section of the fairgrounds, expected to be finalized by the end of July.
Lisa Wood of Thompson Falls was hired at the end of June as a temporary administrative assistant to Fair Manager Kristy Sheehan for the fair season.
Continuing tradition, the commission voted to sponsor the hospitality tent, supporting fair staff and their families for the fifth consecutive year.
Fair Manager Sheehan raised concerns about public use of the fairground hydrant system, specifically regarding usage and its impact on rising electrical bills. Commission Chair Randy Woods noted potential costly repairs if the hydrant system is misused.
The board discussed this year’s Power River gift, traditionally a belt buckle, jacket or plaque. Jolene Burke proposed commissioning a local artist to create the gift.
Sheehan reported strong support for this year’s rodeo, with pledged sponsorships totaling $62,311 — exceeding last year’s total by $6,400. Additionally, over 50 vendors have expressed interest in participating.
The recent fireworks show was well-received, with donations of $250 each from First Security Bank, Valley Bank and Stockman’s Bank, as well as a fireworks donation from Clinkenbeard’s Fireworks Stand.
Looking ahead, Sheehan shared that three family reunions have already been booked at the fairgrounds for next year.
