“Spotlight on the Arts” by The Paradise Center honors and encourages students in the arts by highlighting their talent and acknowledging the support they receive through their schools and teachers.

It was a pleasure to interview Kyrie Carr for this month’s Spotlight on the Arts article.

Kyrie is an 11-year-old student in Mr. Cole’s 5th grade class.

When the elementary principal, Mr. Meredith, nominated Kyrie to be interviewed for this article he mentioned that she had recently won a couple of art contests.

Kyrie won first place in the Department of Natural Resources and Conservation regional “Keep Montana Green” art contest and her piece will advance to the state competition. Her artwork for this competition was done in watercolor and featured a person putting out a campfire with the slogan, “Stray Sparks Cause Starts.” In the local Plains Beautification Day art contest, Kyrie drew, using colored pencils, a boy picking up trash with the “P” Hill in the background. She won second place in the fourth through sixth grade contest with this picture.

Kyrie has been interested in drawing for three years since she was in the second grade. Along with pencil drawing Kyrie likes to paint with watercolors and acrylics. She looks forward to  taking art classes in school as she gets older. Kyrie encourages other students that are interested in drawing to just keep on trying their best at it.

With summer vacation just around the corner, Kyrie is excited to go swimming at the pool and the beach. I would venture to guess that she will be doing some artwork also. She is a talented artist with many avenues to explore.
