Old Schoolhouse Rock Car Show revs up a big crowd

Dan Clemts may be the main Gearhead for the annual Old Schoolhouse Rock Car Show, but he is the first to point fingers and praise to all the volunteers, businesses and sponsors to make this a legendary event in Superior. 

“Our 26th annual show was in memory of Steve Temple who was the (Superior Volunteer) Fire Chief, and car enthusiast among other interests, so we had a first responder theme. One of our Firefighters (Craig Usher) restored an old hand hose cart fire wagon from 1906 and put it in the show,” Clemts said. “It seems we had bigger shows years ago, so this is the largest show in recent years with just over 140 cars from the (Mineral County) courthouse lawn to the Old Schoolhouse parking lot,” he said, but many feel that this had to be the largest ever.

Besides making this a signature social event of the summer, the reason the OSHRCS has the event is to raise scholarship money for local seniors at the three different high schools. 

“We picked six local kids to receive somewhere between $1,000 and $1,500 this year. Once we do a final counting of receipts we will know and present the check to them.” 

The recipients this year are Raeleen Czerp-Davis, Alberton. Addison Martin, Superior. Grace Noonan, St. Regis. Kaleb Park, St. Regis. Hunter Stolla, St. Regis. And Abigail Wheeler, Superior.

Rock & Roll from the 50’s through the 70’s played throughout the day with raffles, food vendors, kid’s games, drawings and gear-head chatter to the awards ceremony at 3 p.m. One of the raffle prizes was a pedal car donated by Dee Rose and she had Chief Temples name put on the driver’s side.
