25 the magic number for Class B and C winners
Twenty-five was the apparent magic number in the Montana Class B and C basketball championships which concluded this weekend in Butte and Missoula.
All four champions, boys’ and girls' teams from the four two classes, capped off their title runs with at least 25 victories.
The lone exception was the Box Elder Bears, who won the boys Class C championship with a 26-0 mark, including their 65-60 title game win over perennially tough Manhattan Christian at the Butte Civic Center. Manhattan finished with a 22-3 overall mark.
In the girls’ Class C tourney, the Saco-Hinsdale-Whitewater Lady Mavericks took home the championship trophy with a 53-47 win over Roy-Winifred. The win lifted SHW to 25-1 on the year.
Huntley Project won the girls’ Class B title with a 65-50 victory over Baker at the University of Montana’s Adams Center, leaving HP with a 25-1 season mark.
Earlier in the evening in Missoula, the hometown Loyola Breakers ran away with the B boys' championship, routing Lodge Grass 91-57.
Box Elder’s win in the Class C boys tourney gave them two major sports wins for the season, including their 6-player state football championship this past Fall.
