There were two state B-C track and field champions from Sanders and Mineral counties last year, and one state champion in cross country.

Plains had two of those champions, Alexis Deming, who won her second straight Class B state title in the discus, the other was Marina Tulloch, a talented sophomore distance runner who won the state B cross country title for the Trotters this past Fall.

Both will be going for more gold as members of the Plains track and field contingent.

The other state champ was Superior pole vaulter Lucas Kovalsky.

In addition to winning the discus title last season, Deming also finished second in the shot put.  She won her first state discus title as a sophomore in 2023.

Tulloch, who will take part in long distance events this season for the Trotters, swept to a big victory in the Class B girls cross country finals.

The Plains boys are also expected to have a strong team this season, with multiple sport standouts Darren Standeford, Caleb Lakko, Cody West, Greg Tatum, Mike Reistroffer, cross-country standout John Owen Jermyn and a host of other talented athletes turning out this year for coach Denise Montgomery.

And the girls' team is expected to be strong with several members of the fourth-place cross country team giving the team a strong group of distance runners.

The Trotters finished fourth as a team at last year’s state finals.

Plains is scheduled to open their season this Saturday, March 29, at the Frenchtown Invitational.  They are entered in the Bigfork Invite April 4.
