Students at Plains Elementary School recently showcased their creativity in the second annual Beautification Days art contest.

Children from kindergarten through sixth grade were invited to design posters to promote community involvement in the upcoming Beautification Day event scheduled from May 17 between 9 a.m.-4 p.m.

To encourage participation and quality work, the contest included a financial incentive. Students competed in three grade-level groups: Kindergarten–1st grade, 2nd–3rd grade, and 4th–6th grade.

First-place winners in each group received a $25 gift card, while second-place winners received a $15 gift card. Each winner had the opportunity to choose a local business where their gift card could be redeemed. The prizes were made possible through generous community donations.

Beautification Days committee members Lana Dickens, Scott Johnson and Deborah Warren spent an afternoon last week visiting the school to present the awards to the winning students.

The winners were:

Kindergarten–1st Grade:
1st Place – Emma Colwell
2nd Place – Emmy Morrison

2nd–3rd Grade:
1st Place – Kade Kinzier
2nd Place – Adeline Hughes

4th–6th Grade:
1st Place – Branden Fryxell
2nd Place – Kyrie Carr

Some of the local businesses chosen by winners to redeem their gift cards included The Circle, Mangy Moose, and the Plains Drug Store.

All submitted posters will be displayed around town in local businesses to help promote Beautification Days. Families will be able to collect their children’s posters following the conclusion of the event.
