Tigers roar at home golf tourney
It was a near sweep of both team titles for the host St. Regis golfers at this past week’s Trestle Creek Invitational in St. Regis.
The Tigers won the boys’ team title by 20 strokes, while the Lady Tigers were second in the girls’ team chase, trailing the winning Florence-Carlton team by just two points.
St. Regis’ Denver Thomas won the boys individual crown with a one-stroke victory over Superior’s Phin Cataldo (77-78) over the 18-hole course, while Seeley-Swan's outstanding golfer Mia Nicholas won the girls’ championship by 12 strokes over runner up Solveig Nygaard of Thompson Falls (90-102).
The host Tigers had three golfers in the top five in the boys’ competition, with Dillon Thomas placing third (85) and Kaleb Park tied for fourth (87) over the par 72 layout.
St. Regis also got a 15th place finish from senior Kaden Sanders, who carded a 99.
The Tigers boys won the team title with a score of 249 (plus 33 to par), while Seeley Swan was second with 269. Florence-Carlton placed third (287) and Superior was fourth (288).
In the girls’ competition, Florence compiled a score of 341, two strokes better than second place St. Regis (343). Plains finished third (391) and Darby was fourth with a score of 413.
Superior, in addition to Cataldo’s overall second, also got 23rd from Dalton Boyce (104), 24th from Bryden Drey (106), tie for 27th by Neil Orr (111) and 33rd from Henry Hanson )125).
Jarett Weeks (91), the only boys’ golfer on the Plains team, was eighth for the Horsemen.
Thompson Falls was led by Tristan Kelly’s sixth place finish (89). The Blue Hawks also got 27th place from Nathan Baxter (111) and Easton Helvey, tied for 29th at 116.
Senior Averie Burham was the top girls’ golfer for St. Regis with a 109, good for fourth place. Other St. Regis golfers included Khila Teeters, a freshman for the Lady Tigers, who carded a 115 (seventh place), Shelby Simkins, tied for eighth (119) and Jaycee Pruitt (14th, 131).
Plains golfers Eleanor Bebb (120, tenth) and Cheyenne Little Whirlwind (eleventh, 121) and Grace Subatch (21st, 150) were among other top Sanders/Mineral County golfers.
Thompson Falls got a 146 from Olivia Nacarrini, good for a tie for eighteenth.
Next up for area golfers is the Western Divisional this Tuesday (May 6) at Indian Springs golf course in Eureka. Teams were allowed a practice round this past Monday (May 5).
The state golf championships for B-C are in Shelby May 13-14.
