Plains-Hot Springs baseball wrap up season
A long season came to a conclusion this past Monday when the Plains-Hot Springs baseball team hosted Troy at Amundson Sports Complex in Plains. The game was played just beyond the Valley Press publication deadline.
But earlier in the week, PHS took on league favorite and defending state champion Polson in Plains and were scuttled by the Pirates 9-0.
The game was a scoreless tie until the top of the third when Polson pushed a single run across the plate for a 1-0 lead. It would be enough.
The Pirates then added two in the top of the fourth and three in the top of the fifth to take a 6-0 lead after four innings as the Polson pitching staff kept PHS off the scoreboard.
Polson tacked on a single run in the sixth and two more in the top of the seventh to secure the 9-0 shutout.
The Pirates whacked 16 hits in the game, while holding PHS to four singles.
Tyler Barton, Pierce Danielson, Zach Allen and Matthew Thurston had one hit each for the Savage Horsemen, who fell to 1-12 on the year with the loss. Polson’s E. Evens led the Pirates with three RBIs on a 2-5 day at the dish.
