Co-op baseball teams cap season
For the two high school baseball teams in Sanders County, Noxon-Thompson Falls and Plains-Hot Springs, the past week brought the end of the 2025 season.
The co-op Noxon-T Falls team lost its final game of the season this past Monday, falling to defending state champ Polson 16-0 in Noxon.
Plains-Hot Springs closed out its year with a 14-3 home loss to Troy.
The Red Devils from Noxon-T Falls finished with a 5-12 overall record, while Plains-Hot Springs fell to 1-13 on the year.
In the NTF game versus Polson, the visiting Pirates jumped out to a 3-0 lead after one inning, then built the lead to 7-0 after three frames.
Polson pitcher Cody Haggard, meanwhile, shut down the Red Devils over five innings, holding them scoreless and hitless, while striking out eight and walking no one en-route to the win.
Haggard also had an outstanding day at the plate, going 3-4 on the day with a home run, double and two RBIs. Teammate Landon Pablo was also 3-4 for the Pirates with four runs batted in.
The visitors added three runs in the top of the fourth, then blew the game open with six runs in the top of inning number five, giving them an insurmountable 16-0 lead.
When NTF failed to score in their half of the fifth, the game was halted via the Mercy rule.
Also last week, Troy pushed six runs across the plate in the top of the first inning in their game versus Plains-Hot Springs (PHS). The Trojans added two runs in both the second and third innings while holding PHS scoreless, giving them a commanding 10-0 lead.
Plains fought back in the bottom of the fourth, scoring one run, but Troy came back with four more scores in the top of the fifth, boosting their advantage to 14-1. The Savage Horsemen kept battling and scored two runs in the bottom of the fifth, but it was not enough to prevent the game from being cut short by the mercy rule.
Troy outhit Plains-Hot Springs 9-7 for the game while playing errorless ball.
Three PHS batters had two hits each during the contest, led by Beau Crabb’s 2-3 day at the dish and two RBIs. Wyatt Butcher was 2-2 with an RBI while Matthew Thurston was 2-3.
Cooper Carsley went 1-3 for Troy with three RBIs. Trojan pitcher T. Guinard went the distance on the mound for Troy, surrendering three earned runs while striking out eight PHS hitters.
