Records broken at State B track meet

It was a record-breaking day for two local track and field seniors at the Class B State High School championships this past weekend in Missoula.
The record-shattering performances began Friday when Noxon’s Ricky Williams broke the existing state Class B high jump record, eclipsing the 48-year-old record by one-half inch.
Saturday, Superior senior Trizten Avila, who won all three sprint titles (100-meter, 200-meter and 400-meter), topped by his record-breaking performance in the 200-meter event.
Williams, who earlier this Spring set a new school record in the high jump with a leap of 6-8, cleared 6-9 ½ to break the old Class C record of 6-9 set by Flaxville’s Dave Weltikol in 1977.
Avila, meanwhile, broke the tape in the 200-meter sprint, crossing the finish line with a time of 21.993, breaking the old record of 21.06 seconds set in 2022 by Loyola’s Ridger Palms.
And although it was not a new class B state mark, Superior sophomore Landon Richards set a new personal best with a high-jump winning leap of 6-6.
The records were set before a full-house crowd at Missoula County Public Schools stadium.
