In this June, 2013 photo provided by the USS Arizona Memorial Foundation, Lauren Bruner, one of five remaining survivors of the USS Arizona during the Dec. 7, 1941, Japanese attack of Pearl Harbor, holds his Purple Heart medal during a Pearl Harbor visit. An Admiral’s Silver Star is pinned to its ribbon, which was presented to Bruner as a sign of respect and honor by Rear Admiral Fernandez “Frank” Ponds in June 2013. Burns covered most of his body after Japanese planes bombed Bruner’s ship. He spent seven months recovering in the hospital, and returned to fight in more battles.
