On a cold and dreary Thursday last week, students and staff from St. Regis School took part in a ceremony for National Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day. It was a sunny Sunday morning when, on December 7, 1941, the Imperial Japanese Air Force launched planes from 6 Japanese aircraft carriers North of Oahu. The attack on Pearl Harbor began at 7:55 that morning. The entire assault took only one hour and 15 minutes. The strike also consisted of two heavy cruisers, 35 submarines, two light cruisers, nine oilers, two battleships, and 11 destroyers. The attack killed 2,403 U.S. personnel, including 68 civilians, and destroyed or damaged 19 U.S. Navy ships, including 8 battleships. The attack on Pearl Harbor led to the US entering World War II.
