The St. Regis American Legion is named after the Marine on this gravemarker. Raymond C. Welch, at only 20 years old was one of the nearly 7000 United States Marines that were killed in the battle of Iwo Jima, during World War II. The fighting lasted for 36 days. (Amy Quinlivan/Mineral Independent)
