Stage one fire restrictions to be lifted in many areas

SANDERS COUNTY - Federal, state, and local government wildland fire agencies in West Central Montana will rescind Stage I fire restrictions, effective Friday, September 13th at 12:01 a.m. A complete list of counties that are rescinding Stage I restrictions is available at firerestrictions.us. Stage I restricts campfires, not debris burning. The counties of Missoula and Ravalli are maintaining their bans on outdoor debris burning, and residents in other counties should consult their local authorities regarding debris and agricultural permit requests.

FWP lifts fishing restrictions on Clark Fork River

Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks (FWP) is lifting fishing restrictions immediately on the Clark Fork River. Water temperatures are holding below 70 degrees, and weather conditions have moderated enough that further restrictions are not likely.

Prisoner of War recognized by Daines in arena

PLAINS – The rodeo arena at the Sanders County Fairgrounds was the scene of an emotional ceremony on Saturday to honor and celebrate the life of a prisoner of war during World War II. Montana Congressman Steve Daines was on hand to present the Prisoner of War Medal posthumously to the daughter of former prisoner and Montana resident Laddie Olson.

The 2013 Sanders County fair started, at least for me, on Thursday. We were all in the Valley Press office having our weekly staff meeting, and I was trolling Justyna and Colin about fair week. They get to run around the fairgrounds taking photos all week long, and they get paid for it. Pretty light duty, in my opinion.

The Chicks N’ Chaps event at the Sanders County Fair combined with an entry in the demolition derby will raise much needed money that will stay in the county.
