Open house highlights kids
Members of the St. Regis community got together with school officials, teachers and students for a chili-feed/potluck supper and school open house Wednesday evening to get to know different members of the community and explore the exciting things the students of St. Regis school are doing.

Bobcat boys take 8 events
The Superior boys finished in first in eight of 17 events at the 14C District Track Meet in Polson Thursday to finish in second place and send 13 boys to the divisional meet.

Balloons hung outside, women received free roses and complimentary refreshments covered two tables last Friday as the Garden Gift and Floral/Plains Liquor Store celebrated it's grand opening.

T-falls boys finish first in first meet
The Thompson Falls boys' track team hit the ground running. In the first track meet of the year they sprinted out in front of 17 other teams and scored 80 points to take home the Drummond/Alberton Invitational crown Thursday.

January 9, 1958: Alberton Gym Opens Friday—Alberton School Superintendent Elmore Smith welcomes all county residents to attend the open house at the school's new gymnasium on Friday evening, Jan. 10. The 120-foot by 75-foot new addition is adjacent to the old school building and it is incorporated into the older structure.

PLAINS - A 65-year-old Wenatchee, Wash., man died Wednesday in a one-vehicle rollover accident north of Plains. Four of his teammates, part of an auto-racing team, were injured in the accident.

James Wesley Ward
James Wesley Ward passed away on June 28th at his home in Thompson Falls. He was born May 24, 1938 n Hamilton, Montana to James J. and Alma Rennaker Ward. His family moved to the mouth of Thompson Fiver in 1947. He attended school in Thompson Falls graduating from TFHS in 1956. He is survived by his wife Ginger, son Cody and granddaughter Kati on the Ward Ranch and daughter Tracy and granddaughters Jenni and Kari of Rathdrum, Idaho. During the years their children were in school the Ward's had several children in need of a place to live stay with them. One being Regan Holden and she now lives in France.

Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation holds another successful banquet
The Sanders County chapter of the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation entertained a “sellout crowd” Saturday at their 18th annual banquet at the Sanders County Fair pavilion in Plains. The foundation’s banquet featured a live auction, silent auction, door prizes, raffles, dinner and beverages in their main fundraiser for the year.

Hot Springs man wants more clean air rules
The Hot Springs man who was against the town council's resolution to provide for a clean and healthful environment now plans to test the council on how devoted they are to cleaning up the air in the town.

Mineral County RSVP volunteers honored at luncheon
A nice luncheon celebrating the accomplishments of the Mineral County RSVP members was held a few weeks ago. A group of 19 volunteers gathered at the River Edge Resort and were greeted with a festively decorated room, and by one another. This tight-knit group has been working side by side for years and friendships have been forged throughout that time. The program is under the direction of Mary Jo Berry, and she coordinated the event to honor their top volunteers.

Four-legged friend visits residents at Mineral Community Hospital
Residents at Mineral Community Hospital have a new four-legged friend named Storm Trooper. He’s just over a year old and already has started his career as a certified therapy dog. Linda Reineke is Trooper’s trainer and she said the white English lab came out of her first litter of pups, and he’s the first one she’s trained.
Life Flight Network no longer offering memberships
Life Flight Network, which is a not-for-profit air medical service, can no longer selling memberships in Montana. This is the result of legislative House Bill 73, which was recently signed into law by Governor Steve Bullock. In an unrelated move, Life Flight is now in-network with Montana’s two large insurance companies, Blue Cross Blue Shield of Montana and Pacific Source. The two companies reaches about 90 percent of the commercial insurance in Montana.

Congressional candidate Kathleen Williams visits
Democratic candidate for U.S. Congress Kathleen Williams made a stop in Superior on March 15 to talk about issues facing Montana voters. Six locals gathered around a table at Durango’s restaurant and shared a cup of coffee with her and told her what was on their minds with discussions ranging from gun control to wilderness areas. Diane Magone, who is running as a Democrat in the House District 14 race, helped to organize the event.
