Man robs Town Pump
A Hot Springs man has been arrested after committing an armed robbery at the Town Pump in Plains, which occurred at 2:10 a.m. on Thursday, Dec. 9. This incident comes just three days after the same man committed a robbery in Missoula.

Plains teacher receives grant
Kids in Kathee Hojem’s fourth grade class were surprised by a news camera in their room on Friday, Dec. 3. That afternoon, the Missoula TV news station KPAX, in collaboration with Allegiance Benefit Plan Management, presented Hojem with a classroom grant as part of their “One Classroom at a Time” program.
Winter trails being prepped
The Missoula Snowgoers plan to begin grooming snowmobile trails in the Lolo Pass, Granite Pass and Gold Creek areas as early as December 1, depending on snow conditions.

Commissioners decide on two projects for FAA money
County commissioners voted last Wednesday to move forward with two projects that would continue to improve the county’s airport. Several projects were discussed, but the commissioners chose to go forward with an AWOS weather system and a revenue generating hanger and to submit them for them for the 2011 Federal Aviation Administration grant money and the state for five percent match money.
Great turnout at Hot Springs Art Gala
Art aficionados and interested community members from all parts of the area crammed into a meeting room at the Symes Hot Springs Hotel in Hot Springs for the Hot Springs Arts Society’s Art Gala, which was held on Saturday, Nov. 13. The event is the organization’s main fundraiser for the year, and featured a wine, cheese and chocolate bar for attendees to taste, and a silent auction, consisting of several works of art from local artists, as well as arts and craft items from area businesses.
Food bank cashes in on frendly rivalry
Football fans took their friendly competition off the sidelines and turned it into a way to help out the food bank in Mineral County last week that led into the showdown between the University of Montana Grizzlies and the Montana State Bobcats on Saturday.

Airport to receive boost
The BitterRoot Economic Development District, Inc (BREDD), the federally designated economic development district for Western Montana Region covering Ravalli, Mineral, and Missoula counties, was awarded $627,000 of grant money from a U.S. Economic Development Administration (EDA) grant to help communities in Montana create jobs and boost local economies.
Fun and games in AWANA program
Twenty-eight students, aged kindergarten through sixth grade, caught a special bus last Thursday after school let out. Rather than heading home after school let out, the kids were bussed over to the Superior Community Church for the weekly AWANA program.
Christmas Tree Permits on sale
Christmas tree permits are now available at all Lolo National Forest Ranger District offices. Permits are limited to three per family and cost $5 each.
