De-stress, don't distress, over the holiday season
The holiday season can be a stressful time as people rush to buy gifts, bake, prepare meals, make travel plans, and ready themselves for guests. Finances can also add to stress levels if people are trying to buy gifts or make holiday arrangements on a tight budget. Also, added to the mix is the stress of sometimes dealing with relatives who may have too much to drink or are argumentative at family gatherings.

Bob Kinney Wrestling Classic held in Superior
Thompson Falls won the Bob Kinney Wrestling Classic held over last Saturday, Dec. 9 with a team score of 184.5. Teams from all over the western Montana traveled to Superior to participate at the annual tournament. Though the number of teams remained about the same, Superior’s head wrestling coach, Charlie Crabb said the number of wrestlers had increased.

St. Regis Holiday Bazaar continues to thrive
With more years than they can remember, Ilene Wolff and Kathy Koepke said the St. Regis Community Council has been putting on the Annual Holiday Bazaar. This year they had more tables than in the past with 38 which is 10 more than last year said Wolff.

Quilts of Valor
Once again local veterans were presented with a gift for their years of service. The Joint Operations of Mariposa presented a small number of men and women with handmade quilts as part of the Quilts of Valor project.

With autumn making a quicker enter, then exit; new MSU Extension officer Jeanette Allday has great advise as to keeping warm this winter while keeping your food budget in check.

Plains students help spread Christmas cheer
Students from Plains High School art classes scattered around town last week to paint a bit of Christmas cheer on local shop windows. A number of their art creations can be seen throughout the town. The week prior the local Lions Club helped hang holiday lights and decorations in town.

Flat Creek Superfund site closed for winter
Work on the Flat Creek-Iron Mountain Mine Superfund site has ended for the year as winter weather moved into the area. Some of the work on the nearly $4 million site which is located north of Superior, has been completed while other projects will need to wait until next spring according to a report by the Superior Technical Assistance Committee (STAC) Environmental Consultant, Steve Ackerlund.

Clark Fork Mountain Cats have got passion for the game
With 15 players rounding out the Clark Fork Mountain Cats 13C roster the team has some power house players and some strong freshman up-comers. There are three seniors this year: Drake Neill, Connor Voll, and Evan Hall. Neill is the lone returning senior and he was voted team captain.

Women in Timber host Parents Gift Table
Tables were filled with gifts at the Parent’s Gift Table on Dec. 2. Local children could come into the room at the Superior Volunteer Fire Station and pick from hundreds of items, unaccompanied by their parent, of course.

Third Annual Holiday Stroll gets locals in the mood for Christmas
For the first time the Wells Fargo Holiday Stroll was held inside the Old Schoolhouse Gym. It was the third annual event where 14 local non-profit groups had tables set up selling products and had information about their organization’s mission. Previously the event had been held on the main floor of the Old Schoolhouse but that space is now being used by a new cafe called “Whipped Up Montana.”

Jailers, dispatch receive salary increases
After seven months the Mineral County Sheriff’s office contract negotiations are complete. With jailers and dispatch employees receiving a $1.80 hour increase in their salaries. County commissioners met with union business representative Shawn Fontaine and employees on November 20 to discuss the over-due contract.
