Water compact heads back to court to block vote
ST. IGNATIUS - The simmering dispute over the water compact is headed back to court. The latest development comes as the Flathead Joint Board of Control (FJBC) pushes to send out a referendum ballot to local irrigators, asking whether they approve of their districts’ withdrawal from the regulatory irrigation board. However, the referendum may never reach its intended audience, as the Jocko Valley and Mission irrigation districts have taken legal action to block the vote, contending that it not only wastes time and money, but also seeks to illegally undermine the districts’ decisions to withdraw earlier this year - a move primarily motivated by the camps’ differing opinions on the proposed water compact. The ballot was originally intended to be mailed out to about 2,000 Lake and Sanders County irrigators on Oct. 25, but could now be delayed by a court-issued restraining order.

The Superior boys had a short week with only a chance to get in a few practices after coming back from break. On Tuesday of last week, the boys wrestled against Drummond and Mission.
Firefighter shatters record
An important training milestone for a firefighter is completion of the Firefighter One course. This course includes a combination of physical skills and technical knowledge. One of the most physically rigorous ways to obtain Firefighter One certification is to attend a training academy put on by the Montana State University Fire Service Training School in Great Falls. This approach requires the candidate to engage in difficult physical activities such as second floor rescues and pitched roof ventilation in full gear including air packs. Unlike local training this process occurs over nine successive days.

It seemed like everybody was calling Mariah Naegeli's name on Thursday at the Plains Methodist Church. The Thompson Falls' senior, known for her community service in 4-H, was doing what she does best. She was helping.
