Community garden in Alberton to collaborate with schools

Last year, Ang MacDonald started a community garden filled with fruit trees, tomatoes and other vegetables in Alberton after two previous failed attempts. The Alberton Railroad Days Community Garden is a nonprofit that MacDonald runs and she’s responsible for most of the work. Her long-term goal is to start a Farm to School program with Alberton, where schools feature locally produced food on their school menus.

Superior pool to stay closed; repair costs studied

The Superior swimming pool is in bad shape and the Town Council recently voted to keep the pool closedl until testing can be done to determine whether it can be sufficiently repaired. During the Dec. 11 Superior Town Council meeting, Public Works Supervisor Roger Wasley explained that over 2 million gallons of water was added over the 10 weeks the pool was open last summer.

Students from St. Regis Elementary School joined Missoula Children's Theatre for a rendition of 'Beauty and the Beast.' However, this time the beast is mixed in with farm animals.

Parents, volunteers and preschoolers gathered at Dave Williams' ranch on Wednesday for a field trip where they played with baby pigs, released a newly hatched butterfly and planted bean seeds. The field trip gave the kids a chance to learn about life cycles.

Thirteen-year-old Coby Guenzler has been a member of 4-H for three years but has been helping his parents on the farm for much longer. The Guenzlers raise Red Angus cattle and so far Coby has three animals he hopes will be ready for the fair season.

U.S. Sen. Steve Daines is looking to help stimulate Montana’s timber industry with several proposed amendments to the Senate Farm Bill. The bill, which passed out of the Senate Agriculture Committee (on which Daines sits) on a 20 to 1 vote, passed the Senate.

Superior School locked down briefly

Superior School experienced a brief lockdown when a student made disparaging remarks to the high school principal, Chris Clairmont on Friday, March 9. The remarks were concerning enough for Clairmont to take action for both the high school and the elementary school to be on lockdown for almost an hour.
